CORONA PANDEMIC – NEEDY PEOPLE DEPENDENT ON STATION AREAS AT IMPORTANT STATIONS WILL GET BENEFIT. RAILWAYS TO PROVIDE FOOD TO THE NEEDY PEOPLE
Daily laborers especially those who are dependent on Station areas are seriously affected due to 21 days lockdown in view of the Corona Virus pandemic. Due to this, these people are facing problems with their livelihood. Ministry of Railways has come forward to provide food to these needy people. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will provide bulk cooked food with paper plates from its base kitchens. In East Coast Railway, Khurda Road Division has the base kitchen at Khurda Road Station which is being managed by IRCTC.
General Manager, East Coast Railway Shri Vidya Bhushan directed Divisional Railway Manager at Khurda Road to personally involve in the planning and execution of the exercise.
Food will be served to the needy persons seating them in orderly manner enforcing social distancing, hygiene etc. ECoR has urged NGOs, volunteers to come forward and cooperate with Railways in this difficult time.
RPF, volunteers or NGO workers etc., while serving food should take due precautions like using masks, sanitizers and gloves. ECoR has taken steps to ensure all safety precautions for officials to be engaged to serve food to the needy persons at different Station areas.
Provision of adequate manpower and other logistic arrangements like vehicles and other amenities, etc., for transportation and distribution of food, will be done in coordination with Senior Divisional Commercial Managers and representatives of IRCTC so that food can be sent to the serving points at different Stations.
Arrangements will also be done for cleanliness and waste disposal in coordination with concerned officials of railways where food is to be distributed. Apart from this, the Medical Team will also be deployed at the site of the distribution of food.
To mitigate the difficulties to a certain extent, INDIAN RAILWAYS has come forward and has decided to open its services for transportation of these essential items in parcel special trains (up to 20 VPUs).
